Spring Spur Family

Kath and Steve Baird established Spring Spur in Tawonga in 1986 with a truckload of horses and a vision for a family business that would honour the traditions of the High Country horse. They arrived with their two young sons, Lin and Clay. That vision continues to drive the family business today — both the Baird family home, and the headquarters of Bogong Horseback Adventures.

Steve’s mother, Pat, wrote a guiding philosophy for the property:

First the stable for the beasts, second the house for shelter, then the garden for sustenance.

People are like the things they build.

Keep building this rambling, unruly & embracing thing we call family.

Current Family Members

• Lin Baird — Host, cook, tour guide, and administrator of daily operations
• Alex Phillips — Winemaker, and mother of Phoebe and Maeve; moved from South Africa in 2016
• Steve Baird — Farmer, artist, and grandfather (stevebairdart.com)
• Kath Baird — Storyteller, grandmother, formerly ran the business and remains involved with family activities
